What kind of nightwear should a child wear for better sleep?
From my experience as a parent (and someone building a kidswear brand), nightwear is one of those small things that actually makes a big difference to a child’s sleep.
A few things really matter:
1. Fabric is everything
Go for soft, breathable fabrics like cotton. Kids tend to get warm at night, and anything synthetic can trap heat and make them uncomfortable (which often shows up as tossing, turning, or waking up cranky).
2. Keep it loose and fuss-free
Nightwear should never feel restrictive—no tight elastics, stiff seams, or complicated styles. The more “free” a child feels, the better they sleep.
3. Don’t overdress them
A simple rule: dress them in just one layer more than what you’re comfortable in. Overheating is actually a very common reason kids wake up at night.
4. Make sure they like what they’re wearing
This is underrated, but powerful. When kids enjoy their clothes-fun prints, soft feel, easy fits—it becomes part of a comforting bedtime routine rather than a struggle.
5. Think comfort beyond bedtime
The best nightwear often doubles up as all-day lounge wear-something they can play, relax, and even step out briefly in.

Personally, while building Mouse in the House, we’ve seen that parents today are moving towards nightwear that is not just “sleepwear,” but something that combines comfort, thoughtful design, and a child’s sense of expression.
At the end of the day, good sleep isn’t just about routines- it’s also about how comfortable and “at ease” a child feels in what they’re wearing.
